The Bio Dome Seed Starter is by far the easiest way to start your seeds indoors. The sturdy plastic base and clear plastic dome top allow light in and provide ample room for the seedlings to grow. The dome top has vents that can be opened or closed as needed. The planting block fits into the tray and has tapered cells into which you insert the bio-sponges, each with a small hole on the top for placing a single seed. The included packet of seedling food is added to the water in the bottom tray, allowing for bottom-watering, the best method for tender plants.
When starting seeds indoors, choose plants that you can't easily find at your local garden center, such as Stevia or Fragrant Corkscrew Vine. Also, if you need a large quantity of a particular plant, starting them indoors is a good choice, as is starting plants that require a longer growing season. Typical vegetables that are well-suited for indoor seed starting include tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant, squash, and cucumbers.
To determine when to start your seeds, first identify your planting zone, then refer to the seed packet for germination time and days to harvest. The majority of plants will need about six weeks from planting to being ready for outdoor transplanting. Be sure to harden off your seedlings gradually before moving them outdoors to help them adjust to the change in temperature, wind, and sunlight.
Whether you choose to start your seeds in peat pots, expandable peat or coir pellets, or plastic pots, be sure to use a soilless mix for best results. Bottom-watering and providing 12-14 hours of light per day, either with grow lights or natural sunlight, are essential for healthy seed starts.
Explore Park Seed's wide selection of seeds, from the Giant Exhibition Complete Mix Coleus to the Mexican Sour Gherkin, as well as our garden supplies like the Nature's Aid Garden Soil Inoculant and the Kozy Coat Insulating Plant Protector. With Park Seed, your garden is set up for success.
